‘Have’ Province Initiative Responds to Feedback

Throughout the Manitoba Chambers’ ‘Have’ Province consultations we have seen that Manitobans are ready for ‘better’ - whether they are prospering or experiencing some challenges, they want to be part of a new plan to seize their community’s potential.

We have heard two more messages loud and clear:

1) People agree that we need to develop ways to measure our success, but the issue of benchmarks is so complex they would like a starting point for that discussion.

and

2) Many chambers and communities are at various stages of developing or wanting to develop a strategic plan. All would like the opportunity to see other strategic plans to see if they are on the right track or get ideas as to how to set one up.

When the Manitoba Chambers started the ‘Have’ Province effort it committed to listening to the views of Manitobans. To that end we are proud to announce two initiatives that directly answer your requests:

Benchmarks:

The ‘Have’ Province website has now posted the frameworks of three key benchmark studies to help spur discussion about how we should measure our success as communities and as a province:

‘The Global Competitiveness Index’

‘The Manitoba Check-Up’, and

The ‘Reporting To Manitobans On Performance’ discussion document prepared by Manitoba Finance.

There is also a survey where you provide you views on these issues. Click here for further information.

Strategic Planning:

The MCC website is currently collecting and posting the strategic plans of local chambers from across the province. Those interested in submitting their strategic plan should email Dan Overall, MCC Director of Policy and Communications, at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it

As well, the MCC’s 2008 AGM will feature an expert on strategic planning and provide an open forum on this issue.
